Inside Man by Jeff Abbott. Thriller by a guy who is not related to Megan Abbott. But, if we were to argue, we could say everyone is related, couldn't we? Abbott and Abbott would be related. I would be related to both Abbotts. Is this familial relationship close enough that I would try to crash at their NYC or Austin pads and ask to borrow fifty bucks to go drink beer? No, probably not.
Save the Date by Mary Kay Andrews. Andrews lives in Atlanta. I was listening to the car radio this morning and Wisconsin Public Radio was talking to Jeff Shaara about the Civil War. He said people in Atlanta still don't like to talk about General Sherman. Sore losers.
Close Your Eyes, Hold Hands by Chris Bohjalian. Orphaned teen girl lives on her own in Vermont when her dead engineer father seen as responsible for a nuclear meltdown.
Shots Fired by C.J. Box. Cover image is a road sign peppered with bullet holes. I was in the Kettle Moraine State Forest- Southern Unit a couple weeks to go walking with my kids. After our walk I drive over to see where the public shooting range is. Along they way I saw a road sign that some dope shot up. Really? You're one mile from a range and shoot a road sign?

Wayfaring Stranger by James Lee Burke. Something about drama in post-World War II Texas and the oil business.
The Dead Will Tell by Linda Castillo. Police Chief investigates murder disguised as suicide in house where Amish family was killed 35 years previous.
Power Play by Catherine Coulter. The usual, I suppose. I've never read a Coulter novel but she has a loyal following and sells a lot of books. I think her author photo is the same. I wonder if the photo budget included a hair and make-up person. I wouldn't know the difference about the make-up but her hair looks sharp.
The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness. Her books do well here. Something about witches and time travel.
Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey. Then look for her.
Sight Unseen by Iris and Joy Johansen. Not to be confused with David Johansen.

Nine Lives to Die by Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown. Another cat mystery. The author phot is a picture of a cat. Not this photo.
Invisible by James Patterson Literary Industries and David Ellis. I'm pretty sure I read an Ellis novel before. Let me check...nope. The dude won an Edgar Award though, that's a big deal. Patterson has a new author photo, I cannot see his watch in this one.
Cop Town by Karin Slaughter. I've never read a slaughter book. I think this is her 17th novel. Unless she did some ghost writing. Oh, I remember her author photo. He photographer did that thing where the face is in focus and everything else is in soft focus. That's a neat effect.
The Arsonist by Sue Miller. A guy I know on the local volunteer fire department never joined the fire department until after he stopped working for the Sheriff's Department. He used to investigate arson crimes and since arsonists may, and sometimes are, be firefighters he wanted to avoid that entanglement.
First-Degree Murder by Christine DeSmet. Doesn't DeSmet teach at UW-Madison. Let me check...yep, she does screenwriting and fiction and her author photo is a small black and white one.

Tequila Sunset by Sam Hawken. I ordered a second copy by mistake. Since all paperbacks are processed by the vendor I cannot send them back. Oh well. More opportunity for you to read this crime novel set in Northern Mexico. I read Hawken's first novel but cannot recall which characters survived or if they appear in here.

Page 138 says, "Like if you see a photo of a celeb walking down the street holding an Arby's shake, first of all, those shakes are delicious, so celebrities should walk around with them, but second of all, they were probably paid by Arby's to do it. Vertigo 42 by Martha Grimes. What color is that sweater Grimes is wearing in her author photo? Violet? Pink? Pink-Violet? Mauve? It's a nice color but I should cannot name it.
The Keeper by John Lescroart. I can name Lescroart's shirt colors. Grey and black. Because the author photo is black and white.

Ledger should go after Maberry for Maberry's Facebook posting mania. The Ledger series is fun and the narrator, Ray Porter, really chews up the narration.
Bad Wolf by Nele Neuhaus. I'm not sure what this is. Something about a serial killer in Frankfurt.
Sniper's Honor by Stephen Hunter. Sniping snipers snipe.
Suspicion by Joseph Finder. Guy needing money for his daughter's tuition accepts personal loan and DEA goes after him for taking drug money.
