Fiction
Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie. Lady takes care of ex-husband's delinquent cousins.
Empire by Steven Saylor (no relation). Another historical Rome novel by Saylor (no relation). Saylor (no relation) always does a great job mixing characters, historical setting, and the particular aspects of Roman culture. (no relation).
Spider Bones by Kathy Reichs. Doctor picks over the bones of the dead.
Bearers of the Black Staff by Terry Brooks. Let me guess: guy with black staff hits whacks forces of evil across the head.
Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. Franzen is supposed to be a living literary god. I have not yet read any of his books but I did enjoy the brouhaha over the NYT and Jodi Picoult.
Nemesis by Lindsey Davis. This lady's mysteries are supposed to be really good too. Also similar to Saylor's (no relation) with an ancient setting.
Lost Empire by Clive Cussler and Grant Blackwood. Boat sinks. Times passes. People find boat.
Large Print
Veil of Night by Linda Howard. On the cover: Girl wrapped in gauze and backlit. Reminds me of that awful movie with Orson Welles and Pia Zadora.
Tough Customer by Sandra Brown. Same cover as hardcover edition.
