Fifteen Music CDs with Peruvian Disco Music From Space

Music on CD

Sigh No More by Mumford and Sons. Yes. I know I'm late on this one.

Own Side Now by Catlin Rose. Gerard? Yes? Why did you buy this one? I don't recall.

Lady Killer by CeeLo Green. Yes, late again.

Bella by Teddy Thompson. No - Not Late At All! I bought this before the release date but we had trouble getting it on the shelf. So there. Thompson is playing in Madison tonight. I am unable to attend.

Commercial by Los Amigos Invisibles. The Peruvian Disco Band From Outer Space. They say they are from Venezuela but I do not believe it.

Different Gear, Still Speeding by Beady Eye. The left-over members of Oasis formed a band.

Endgame by Rise Against. Some band out of Chicago that circs well here. I read a pop reference to them recently.

21 by Adele. I bought this CD early as well. Hah!

Now That's What I Call Music 37 by [various bands]. Sixteen popular pop tunes I have never heard.

Kiss Each Other Clean by Iron and Wine. Gerard? What? Who are these guys? I have no freaking clue, but I saw them listed on a 6 Music playlist the other night.

Wow Hits 2011
by [various]. 30 songs on two CDs of popular gospel I have never heard. I bought a book about Christian rock a few years ago, Body Piercing Saved My Life.

Bright Morning Stars by the Wailin' Jennys. I bought a previous album called Firecracker. When I saw that Firecracker has good circs I ordered this one.

Mean Old Man by Jerry Lee Lewis. The Killer rerecords tunes with younger musicians. I heard - I think on The Underground Garage - that Lewis's previous album Last Man Standing came about because a wealthy fan thought it up and bankrolled the whole thing.

Kidz Bop 19 by [various]. Kids sing popular tunes. This product is Bieber free.

Disney Soundtrack Collection: classic hits by [various]. Another Disney re-hash and cash-in.

UPDATE: Every disc but Commercial and Kidz Bop was on hold.

Musical Interlude

Musical Interlude

One benefit of having an office is that I can listen to music while working. My favorite radio station is the BBC's 6 Music. They just played this tune. The gal, Agnes Obel, is Norwegian. Her accent matches that of another Scandinavian girl singer, Nina Persson of The Cardigans. But not the accent of Bjork.

74 Digital Discs

DVD

The Wire: the complete series. 23 discs covering all four seasons. An engrossing crime drama set in modern Baltimore. I've never seen the show and there are 60 episodes.

When I Rise: let your voice be heard featuring Barbara Smith Conrad. Conrad was a co-ed at the University of Texas when she was cast as the lead in a school opera. But, since this was 1956 and Conrad is black trouble ensued. The story hit the national papers, attracted attention of Harry Belafonte who called her at her dorm, and Conrad's career took off into international fame. Fifty years later Conrad returned to Austin.

Remember this incident, Crider? You must have been a teenager so maybe you were too busy reading Amazing Stories.

Chickens Unite!

Comic Book Novel

Elmer: a comic book by Gerry Alanguilan. A window into an alternate Earth where chickens have suddenly acquired the intelligence and consciousness of humans, where they consider themselves a race no different from whites, browns, or blacks. Recognizing themselves to be sentient, the inexplicably evolved chickens push to attain rights for themselves as the newest members of the human race.

That'll crimp your dinner plans. No more chicken tacos for you, Anthony Neil Smith. I write Anthony Neil Smith because I am desperate for website hits. Okay, I'm not desperate for hits. If I were desperate I'd type in words like boobs, and Libya, and Japan Earthquake. Our blog regularly gets hits from people looking for images of outdoor ice rinks and skating.

Hap and Leonard Make More Trouble

Fiction

Devil Red by Joe R. Lansdale. Best pals Hap and Leonard "return in a red-hot, mayhem-fueled thriller to face a vampire cult, the Dixie Mafia, and the deadliest assassin they've ever encountered - Devil Red." Lansdale is big in Italy and very kung-fuey. Bill Crider says Lansdale's daughter is kung-fuey as well. (I don't actually know any of these people.)

Toys by James Patterson and Neil McMahon. All these Patterson novels should be in paperback.

Lego Mind Storm: Build and DESTROY!

Hosted on 7 March 2011. We had a great turnout with 31 kids joining us after school.

Seven Items of Pressed Wood Pulp with Dogs

Young Adult

Clarity by Kim Harrington. I usually don't list YA books but this was in the pile. Girl is clairvoyant. No dogs.

Fiction

Minding Frankie by Maeve Binchy. Cover illustration is a painting with people and two dogs.

Betrayal by Fern Michaels. Ghost written? I'm wondering because Michaels cranks'em out. Author photo includes three dogs. One is a small poodle. My family had a toy poodle named Rex. Rex liked to lick. Lick, lick, lick like a snake. Lick, lick, lick. My aunt used to call Rex a lizard. Lick, lick, lick. Rex used to ride on my shoulder like a parrot.

Sing You Home by Jodi Picoult. I tried reading a Picoult book but I never finished it. Dog status is unknown. My dog's status is HAIRY.

Large Print

Border Lords by T. Jefferson Parker. Like the regular print version but with larger font and a different cover design. The cover design incorporates the silhouette of a Beretta 92 for the L in Lords. Lame. This book has the bad guy taking in a stray mutt in Mexico.

Last Days of Ptolemy Grey by Walter Moseley. How do you pronounce Ptolemy? Mosley wrote a book entitled Walkin' the Dog. I did an image search on Google trying to find a photo of Mosley with a dog. No dice. I did find this near Mosley's name on Neil Gaiman's blog. Gaiman really seems to like his dog; he has dog photos all over his posts.

I Think I Love You by Allison Pearson. 1998 London has two life long David Cassidy fans finally getting to meet the former teen star. Was there a dog on that awful Partridge Family show?

Hunting From a Bicycle

NonFiction

A Grouse Hunter's Almanac: the other kind of hunting by Mark Parman. Twenty years of bird hunting. I was flipping through this and came to:

Once while mountain bike hunting in a section of county forest where both pursuits are allowed, I rolled up on a young couple out mountain biking. the dog was thirty yards ahead, leading me down the trail. When I rounded a corner, the couple was petting him, and he was working the free massage for all it was worth...When he spotted my gun and the tail feathers poking out the front of my vest, his face went cold. Clearly both were uncomfortable with me, although maybe they just didn't like or understand guns...Did they think I rode around with a loaded shotgun, blasting away at whatever moved like some sort of mountain bike Rambo? They pedaled away quickly, looking over their shoulders and whispering to each other. They didn't seem sure about me, but they did seem to like the dog, which is a start.

Fiction

Vicious Cycle by Terri Blackstock. I'll open this to a random page as well. She looked away, "I didn't say that." "You meant it. But that's okay."

Treachery in Death by J.D. Robb.

A Taste of Romance by Roni Denholtz. Romance.

Devil's Food Cake Murder by Joanne Fluke. Are these ghost written? The frequency makes me wonder.

Union Quilters by Jennifer Chiaverini. "An Elm Creek Quilts Novel."

Red Wolf by Liza Marklund. Swedish murder mystery.

Now You See Her by Joy Fielding. Non-Swedish. Very conventional title, too. Woman sees her dead daughter everywhere. Daughter's drowned body was never recovered, so hey, can you blame her?

Delays Due to Cataloging Issues

Cataloging Delays

After a recent software update by Sirsi all newly uploaded records are showing double. So we have not been unable to add new material. This is not too bad for a small library like ours but I imagine Beaver Dam, Racine, and West Bend are really annoyed. Here are some items that were already in the pipeline.

Fiction

Heartwood by Belva Plain.

Large Print

Dead Zero by Stephen Hunter. Another love letter to .30 caliber rifle shooting. The novel is dedicated to Nick Ziolkowski.

Nashville Chrome by Rick Bass. Some sort of novel.

NonFiction

If your adolescent has depression or bipolar disorder by Dwight L. Evansm, M.D. and LInda Wasmer Andrews. Notice how I typed that title in cataloger style? No capitals but for the first word? What do you mean you don't care? What do you mean I barely passed my basic cataloging class?

Large Print and a Piccirilli

AudioBook on CD

The Cold Spot by Tom Piccirilli, 7 hours on 6 CDs. The first novel in Piccirilli's great series with former wheelman and crook, Chase.

This morning I received an email in my junk box from Piccirilli asking for assistance. He is in Southern England on vacation and has lost his money and passport! Oh, what disaster! Please help me!
I assume the real Piccirilli is not pleased with someone using his name for a scam.

Large Print

Strategic Moves by Stuart Woods. Front cover has illustration of car crashing into a swimming pool. I could try and draw parallels between the cover and the current state of ghost writing. But, this series is still popular so the publisher must be hiring good ghost writers.

Secrets to the Grave by Tami Hoag. Murder mystery.

The Sentry by Robert Crais. Large print version of the Joe Pike novel.

Marrying Daisy Bellamy by Susan Wiggs.

Casting About by Terri Dulong. The cover implies the plot involves knitting.

Waking up in Dixie by Haywood Smith.

Separate Beds by Elizabeth Buchan.

Music on CD

Songs of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen. Do you really like his songs or are you being hip?

Music, Fiction. Jogging in the Desert

DVD (NonFiction)

Running the Sahara by James Moll. "An attempt by three ultra marathoners to run across the length of Africa's Sahara desert, tackling not only the elements, but also unimaginable physical and emotional obstacles...anticipating two marathons a day, for eighty days...without a day off."

Ha! The guys in Top Gear out did that. They drove across across an African desert in crappy, used cars. (This episode scared my oldest son when he first watched it. He thought one of the show's hosts was going to be left behind in the desert.)

Music on Shiny Plastic Discs

Street Songs of Love by Alejandro Escovedo. The last Escovedo CD I bought went out very well.

Greatest Hits by Goo Goo Dolls. Bleah.

Bob Dylan: At Budokan by Bob Dylan. Grubble grbl Simple Twist of Fate Buerbelle krumpfhler Like a Rolling Stone cracckkleter All Along the Watchtower.

Country Song: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. This is a bestseller list.

Psycho Sonics by The Sonics. Another byproduct of Little Steven's radio station on Sirius Satellite radio. The Sonics were a Tacoma garage band in the '60s with a loud, raw, rock sound.

Georgia Warhorse by J.J. Grey and Mofro. A continuing byproduct of Anthony Neil Smith who gave an online recommendation of Orange Blossoms.

Be in Love by Locksley. Very energetic pop songs with plenty of guitar. Dudes are out of Madison and, once again, favored by Little Steven. A well-done video that catches the energy of the tune:

Made Up Stories Printed on Paper

Wisconsin Angel: Cordelia Harvey, Civil War Heroine by Jane Walrath Solem. Fictionalization of Harvey's work on behalf of Wisconsin's soldiers.

Though Not Dead by Dana Stabenow. Danger in Alaska with investigator Kate Shugak. Shugak's uncle has died and his will requests Kate to "find his father" who disappeared right after the uncle's birth. Danger ensues.

Fatal Error by J.A. Jance. Ali Reynolds is about to enter the Arizona Police Academy when an old friend, Brenda, shows up looking for her fiance. The fiance is a sociopathic bigamist who ends up murdered with Brenda as the main suspect.

Fadeaway Girl by Martha Grimes. Cover illustration has a maid, in maid's uniform, peaking through a keyhole.

Strong Justice by Jon Land. I read something good about this one. Something about a female Texas Ranger. The cover photo if a pistol muzzle in focus with an out-of-focus gal pointing the gun at the camera.

I Just Used an Entire 50 Lb. Bag of Salt on Our Sidewalk Ice

Ice

A thin and slick layer of ice covered the pavement this morning. I used an entire 50 lb. bag on all our walkways. (That's 22.68 kilos, Dunedin.)

DVD

Death Race 2 starring SEAN BEAN. This looks like B-movie heaven. Convicts have to "drive - or die." There are other actors in this but SEAN BEAN is in it so who cares about the other dudes?

Julia starring Tilda Swinton. Alcoholic Julia lives in a booze haze and takes a try at crime. A try that escalates beyond control. Swinton was in Young Adam with Ewan McGregor in which both actors have full frontal nudity. Boy, I'll tell you, it was a shock seeing Obi-Wan Kenobi's penis.

Social Network starring Jesse Eisenberg. I still have not seen this flick.

Winter's Bone starring [actors] It is a great book and the movie is supposed to be stellar. Here it is in the original Swedish.

Fiction

Outsourced by Dave Zeltersman. Laid off software engineers have plan to rob a bank. The Russian mafia gets involved. Roger Smith really likes Zeltersman's work and that is a high endorsement.

Divine Misfortune by A. Lee Martinez. Another humorous fantasy novel by Martinez. Teri and Phil go online to find a personal God to help their career advancement. They find Luka "raccoon god of prosperity". Luka just wants a cut of the cash and a place to crash.

Crazy for Kingsbury, Zoe Sharp, Death in Old Wisconsin, Read A Western

Fiction

Take One, Take Two, Take Three and Take Four by Karen Kingsbury. The four novels of Kingsbury's Above the Line series. Plot descriptions at Kingsbury's website.

The Owl Hunt by Richard S Wheeler. A Barnaby Skye western by Wheeler. Half-indian teacher on the Shoshone reservation is caught between the tribe and the Indian Bureau when a local Shoshone sees an eclipse as a sign the whites are leaving and the Bureau fears insurrection.

Tick Tock by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge. Ka-chunk! Ka-thunk! goes the crank handle.

Fourth Day by Zoe Sharp. Charlie Fox is an English female bodyguard/trouble shooter now working in the U.S. Sharp has several books in the Fox series but only recently has been getting published in the States. Kind of a female Jack Reacher with tough-gal action.

A Decadent Way to Die by G.A. McKevett. One of those mystery books with cooking and recipes.

Right Hand Magic by Nancy A. Collins. Back cover says: Like most Manhattanites, aspiring artist Tate can't resist a good rental deal - even if it's in the city's strangest neighborhood, Golgotham. For centuries werewolves, Valkyries, centaurs, and countless other creatures have crowded these streets, where no cab will venture. Golgotham's most prominent citizens, though, are the Kymerans, a race of witches who provide humans with the charms they desire and curses they fear.

Ex-Boyfriend's Handbook by Matt Dunn. Edward's girlfriend, Jane, leaves him after ten years, "if he's going to be Jane's Mr. Right, he needs to turn himself around...But is a change in appearance what Jane really wants...is there more to the dating game than meets the eye?"

Old World Murder by Kathleen Ernst. Last Friday some librarian-type said this is a fun book. Chloe is the new collections curator at Old World Wisconsin. An old lady asks Chloe to find a bowl donated years before but the old lady is killed in a suspicious car wreck before Chloe can respond. Chloe finds "that someone is desperately trying to cover up all traces of the bowl's existence - by any means necessary."

A Cup of Friendship by Deborah Rodriguez. This title sounds tailored to fit the book group crowd but it had a decent review. American expatriate in Kabul opens a coffee shop and meets neat people among the Afghanis and the foreign workers in the area.

Red Garden by Alice Hoffman. Roses, tulips, bell peppers, hot peppers, pomegranates, apples, cherries, raspberries, cranberries, mangoes, radishes, red lettuce, potatoes.

Lee Goldberg Ruth Downie, Stiltsville, Ghost Writing

Adult Fiction

Mr. Monk on the Road by Lee Goldberg. Monk drugs his agoraphobic brother and brings him along on a RV based road trip. Goldberg would rather sell this as an ebook. Does Shalhoub get paid for each book cover or did he sign his rights away like Princess Leia?

Caveat Emptor by Ruth Downie. Romam doctor Gaius Ruso is back in Britannia and stuck investigator a missing tax man. I've never read one of these novels but will. If you like these try out the novels of Steven Saylor (no relation).

Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart.

The Neighbors Are Watching by Debra Ginsberg. Sounds like you should move.

Damage by John Lescroart. Orange cover.

Other Eyes by Barbara D'Amato. Author investigating drug use by ancient cultures has killer after her when she might be finding a cure for drug addiction.

Love Letters by Katie Fforde. Chickk Bookk.

Stiltsville by Susanna Daniel. Gal visits and then moves to the neighborhood of homes built on pilings in Miami's Biscayne Bay. Author lives in Madison. Looks like author did her own photo for the bio. I liked that episode of Miami Vice where they set a shootout in Stiltsville. Advance to the last chapter at 31:30. Oh, heck, here it is anyway.

Janus Stone by Elly Griffiths. That sounds like a British name. Yep, she "lives Brighton, on the English coast."

Strategic Moves by Stuart Woods.

The Nomination by William G. Tapply. Supreme Court nominee sets out to clear out the skeletons in his closet with the help of a paid murderer.

Charlie Hood and Joe Pike Right Wrongs and Love Their Cars

Fiction

Border Lords by T. Jefferson Parker. Deputy Sheriff Charlie Hood is still assigned to the ATF task force in Southern California. An undercover agent has gone "black" and Charlie looks for him, wondering if his pal is overly dedicated or had his morals skewed. I'll bet Hood drives around a lot in his Camaro.

Inner Circle by Brad Meltzer. I have never read any of this guy's books but this thriller had a good review in either Library Journal or Booklist. Archivist in D.C. finds a book owned by George Washington and now bad guys are out to kill him. The bad guys are after the archivist not George Washington. Washington is already dead.

Clara and Mr. Tiffany by Susan Vreeland. Novelization of the gal who started making glass lampshades for Tiffany.

Sentry by Robert Crais. Joe Pike wears sunglasses and protects a family. The family is not what it appears. I don't think Hood and Pike would get along. But, Pike does not get along well with anybody but Elvis Cole. Robert Crais is going to be at Mystery One in Milwaukee on Sunday the 23rd. I don't think I'll be able to attend.

Crais is in Houston this Sunday the 16th. You going, Crider?

Crais was passing out Pike temporary tattoos on a previous tour. Here is the best use of one of the tattoos.

B-Movies and Stuff

DVD

Machete starring Danny Trejo, Steven Segal, Michelle Rodriguez, others. Some guy out for violent vengeance.

Dinner for Schmucks starring Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Ron Livingston. Guy has to find a buffoon to take to his boss's monthly dinner. Succeeds.

Fiction

Charming Quirks of Others by Alexander McCall Smith. Isabel Dalhousie book.

Judas Gate by Jack Higgins. Some sort of shoot'em up.

Family Affair by Debbie Macomber. Author photo has a smiling Macomber wearing a necklace with a big honking pendant. That pendant looks big enough to make her fall over. I'm not saying it looks bad, just that it looks heavy.

The author bio says she lives in Washington state and Florida. Seattle to Orlando is a 5.5 hour non-stop flight. If Macomber books a flight with a connection it is an 8-9 hour trip. She sells a ton of books so maybe she spends the cash on a private charter.

Seattle to Dunedin, NZ would take 28.5 hours and cost $1,700. Seattle to Paris is 15 hours - but that is with a stop in Los Angeles.

Audio Book

Reckless Bride by Stephanie Laurens. Some sort of romance with the model on the cover photo looking "sultry".

What to Read 41: John Farrow (Trevor Ferguson)

Canadian novelist Trevor Ferguson never sold many novels under his own name. So, he took on the pseudonym John Farrow and wrote a Montreal set detective novel entitled City of Ice and sold a lot of books.

Two Shoot'Em Ups, Two Ghost Stories, One Murder Story

Adult Fiction

Dead Zero by Stephen Hunter. .30 caliber rifle love once again with Bob Lee Swagger shooting people from afar. Swagger is called for help when a new Afghan ally is being gunned for by a Marine sniper.

The Outlaws by W.E.B. Griffin and William E. Butterworth IV. "A Presidential agent novel". Judging from the map on the inside the novel's characters go to Midland, TX, Fort Detrich, MD, Philadelphia, Washington, Fort Bragg, For Rucker, Tampa, Ciego de Avila in Cuba, La Orchila off the coast of Venzuela, Suncion in Paraguay, Buenos Aires, Montevideo in Uruguay, Puerto Montt in Chile, San Carlos de Bariloches and Ushuaia in Argentina, Paris, Marburg an der lahn in Germany, Vienna, Budapest, North Kurdufan in Sudan, Kisangani in the Congo, Kilimanjaro International Airport, and Moscow.

If you actually read that list of locations maybe you thought of this:

In Too Deep by Jayne Ann Krentz. Open shirted guy on cover.

Secrets of the Grave by Tami Hoag. How do you pronounce her last name?

What the Night Knows by Dean Koontz . Serial killer's crimes being recreated. Both the Koontz novel and the Hoag novel have crows on the cover.

DVD and Music on CD

DVD

Across 110th St. starring Yaphet Kotto and Anthony Quinn. 1970's blaxploitation with NYC cops trying to stop a gang war between the mob and gangs in Harlem. Another result of my listening to too much of Little Steven's Underground Garage.

Music on Cd

Nothing Like This by Rascal Flatts. I have no knowledge of these guys aside from what I see from the cover photo. Judging by that photo they like necklaces and black clothes.

Write About Love by Belle and Sebastian. Get a modern haircut, put on a sweater, and sit in a coffee shop looking pensive as you listen. Don't let your irrational fear of the Scottish keep you away. I like them (older tune with video containing odd Teddy Boy references).

What? You don't have a fear of the Scottish? Then you better start reading Allan Guthrie novels.

Audiobook on CD

America by Heart by Sarah Palin. 6 CDs at 7.25 hours. Be nice.

Crocodiles Eating Vampires

Fiction

Crocodile's Last Embrace by Suzanne Arruda. I'll bet Crider already ordered this one. Jade returns to Kenya. Jade's nemesis escapes prison and recent murders seem related to a gold mine. I think Arruda still lives in Kansas. If I am feeling ambitious during next summer's vacation maybe I'll try and interview her. Oops, no I will not, she lives in Pittsburgh and that is 180 miles away.

Speaking of Crider and Kansas, I am hoping to check-out his westerns from the Salina Public Library during vacation.

DVD

Eclipse starring [current heart throbs]. Teenage girl makes out with a vampire and a werewolf. I think. I have not read these novels and I have no idea what really happens outside of a bunch of angst and that one guy taking his shirt off.

Driven to Ink by Karen E. Olson. Mystery series set Las Vegas tattoo shop featuring tattooist Brett Kavanaugh. Brett loans her car to a couple friends and they return the car with a Dean martin impersonator in the trunk. The impersonator is dead of course.

This series has done well here. So well that someone STOLE the second book in the series.

Mysteries With New and Old Authors

New Authors (to Lake Mills)

The Damage Done by Hilary Davidson. Lily comes home to deal with her sister's suicide. The dead girl is not her sister but a identity thief and Lily's sister is missing. This novel has gotten a fair amount of online attention by various authors.

Double Exposure by Michael Lister. Lister was at Murder and Mayhem in Muskego and spoke earnestly about his love of Florida. His speaking convinced me to try one out. This one has Remington James returning home to North Florida and taking over the family business. Rem also returns to photography and discovers a crime through his time lapse photography from the local woods.

Body and the Blood by Michael Lister. Prison chaplain John Jordan witnesses a bizarre murder at work. He investigates.

The Insane Train by Sheldon Russell. "A Hook Runyon Mystery". Oh yeah, this sounded like a real good one. Hook Runyon, a railroad company "yard dog", is assigned to escort a train full of mental patients cross country in the late 1940's. A murder on the train has the aggressive Hook on the search for the killer.

Old Authors

Innocent Monster by Reed Farrel Coleman. Another Moe Prager mystery.

On The Line by S.J. Rozan.

Labrynth by Kat Richardson. This had a great review in either Library Journal or Booklist.

Stack of Fiction

Fiction

Collusion by Stuart Neville. With a name like that this guy has to be English. Let me check...Nope, I was wrong. He is Irish. But, he is Northern Irish and I'll judge by the name he is orange.
Neville wrote Ghosts of Belfast which proved popular here in Lake Mills. I have yet to read Ghosts but want to.

The Network by Jason Elliot. British spy assigned to destroy Stinger missiles in Afghanistan in pre-9/11.

Dangerous to Know by Tasha Alexander. Alexander is a nice lady. Her other novels have been doing well here since I started buying them. Lady Emily continues her mid-1800s adventures with a murder mystery in London that may be linked to Jack the Ripper.

Ape House by Sara Gruen. Gruen is popular with the book club crowd.

Fatal Error by F. Paul Wilson. I sat next to Wilson during lunch at Murder and Mayhem in Muskego this fall. He is a good dude. Fatal is part of his Repairman Jack series. Wilson mentioned that a couple of his books have never gone out of print. One of those is The Keep (at least that is what I remember.). Wilson was of the correct opinion that the movie version of The Keep stunk.

The Skin Map by Stephen Lawhead. "A Bright Empires" novel. The plot description on the flyleaf is way too confusing to summarize here.

Power Down by Ben Coes. Former commando is out to get the terrorists who bombed the oil platform he managed and killed part of his crew.

Dead Or Alive by Tom Clancy. Latest Jack Ryan and Jack Ryan, Jr. novel.

Demon's Parchment by Jeri Westerson. "A Medieval Noir". I bought the last book in this series because of the Medieval Noir tagline. That book circ'ed well so I bought this one.

Snow Day by Billy Coffey. Literary type novel.

Dang it. Too Much Creamer in my Coffee

Coffee

Too Much Creamer

NonFiction

How to Read a Person Like a Book: observing body language to know what people are thinking by Gerard I. Nierenberg, et al. We have some other body language books that have checked out real well. So, I bought this.

200 Tips for De-Cluttering: room by room, including outdoor spaces, and eco tips by Daniela Santos Quartino. Popular topic. Maybe the author addresses excessive book hoarding of old paperbacks.

A Stack of Donated CDs and A Complaint About the Weather Forecast

Shiftless Loser by Gischler and Wisconsin Infantry

Book on CD

Earthbound by Richard Matheson. 6 CDs at 6.5 hours. Horror novel set during a couple's second honeymoon. Read by Bronson Pinchot who co-starred in that awful, awful buddy sitcom.

Fiction

The Deputy by Victor Gischler. Shiftless loser gets job as part time cop in small town Oklahoma. Trouble happens. More trouble happens. Extra trouble happens. This is a Gischler novel so you know it is a good novel with plenty of humor, action scenes, and neat (and neatly drawn) characters.
I liked the female deputy character in this. She does not appear often but is just as much a fish out of water as Shiftless Loser. Shiftless Loser is out of his depth as a mostly inept buffoon. Girl Deputy is too competent and skilled to fit into the backwater police department.

The Deputy by Victor Gischler. Because I screwed up and ordered both a hardcover and paperback. Gischler was very nice and tolerated me quite well during the Murder and Mayhem in Muskego thing.

NonFiction

Red Arrow in the Sand: a pictorial history of the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Iraq 2009-2010 by [no author/editor listed]. Kind of like a yearbook, but with guns and armored trucks.

Local Interest, Popular Fiction, "What's Up Down There?"

DVD

Beyond the Prairie starring Richard Thomas, Meredith Monroe. Two movies on one DVD portraying Wilder as a teenaged girl on the prairie.

Fiction

Port Mortuary by Patricia Cornwell. Does she write her own books any more? Or, does she hire ghost writers? I wonder this about many writers.

Rescue by Anita Shreve. Love affair and marriage between paramedic and young lady.

Of Love and Eden by Alice Rice. "Haunting new novel, a metaphysical thriller of angels and assassins that once again summons up dark and dangerous worlds set in times past."

NonFiction

What's Up Down There by Lissa Rankin, M.D. "Questions you'd only ask your gynecologist if she was your best friend." Straightforward information for private questions. Recommended by Christa Faust.
